Teacher - Miss Davies

Welcome to Ywen Class 

We are a happy and caring class where everyone feels safe and gets help when they need it. We enjoy learning, playing, and having fun with our friends. We like trying new things, sharing ideas, and working together. 

Our teacher is Miss Davies, and Mrs Jakab and Mr Hughes help us in the classroom. We are excited about a year full of fun, learning, and making lots of happy memories together! 

Physical Education (PE) 

Outdoor PE lessons: Wednesday afternoon 
Indoor PE lessons: Friday morning 

This term, we will be focusing on team games and gymnastics. The children will develop their fundamental movement skills, including running, jumping, throwing, and catching, through a variety of cooperative and competitive games. 

In gymnastics, they will develop their balancing and rolling skills and learn to create simple sequences of movements. 

These activities will help to develop confidence, teamwork, spatial awareness, and physical fitness in a fun and engaging way. 

Children may come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. 

Forest School 

Forest School will take place every Tuesday afternoon. It is very important that your child comes with the correct clothing for these sessions. Wellington boots and waterproof clothing are essential, especially in wet weather, to ensure that children can fully take part, explore the outdoors, and enjoy their time at Forest School. 

Literacy – Tric a Chlic 

This term, we will continue to develop the children's literacy skills through the Tric a Chlic programme. We will revise and strengthen their knowledge of Welsh sounds and spelling patterns to support their reading and writing. The children will use these sounds to read and write a variety of words, including more complex vocabulary. 

As the term progresses, we will focus on building complete sentences and developing extended writing skills. The children will learn to use capital letters, full stops, and other basic punctuation correctly, while also improving their spelling and presentation. 

We will also encourage the children to write for different purposes, helping them to develop confidence and creativity as independent writers. 

Numeracy 

In our numeracy lessons, we will continue to develop our number skills through the Big Maths programme. The children will practise recognising, reading, and writing numbers, as well as developing their addition and subtraction skills. 

We will also learn about doubles, halves, and place value, using a variety of practical and enjoyable activities to build confidence and mathematical understanding. In addition, we will explore measurement using different units, such as length, weight, and capacity, and learn how to choose and use the most appropriate units in everyday situations. 

Inquiry Topic – Humanities 

For our inquiry topic this term, we will be learning about yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We will explore how things have changed over time and how life is different now compared with the past. 

We will also be exploring the world of dinosaurs and trying to answer the question: 

“Where did the dinosaurs go?” 

We will learn about dinosaurs and other animals, investigating how they have changed and evolved over millions of years. We will explore the links between animals from the past and those living today, and discover how some modern animals are related to dinosaurs. 

Through play, discussion, reading, research, and collaboration, we will develop our thinking skills, ask questions, and learn more about the world around us. 

Reading at Home 

The children will bring a reading bag home so that they can enjoy reading with you. We have three reading groups in the class, and each group will have a specific day to return their reading bag to school. A note will be placed in the bag to indicate which day applies to your child. 

Reading with your child at home is extremely important and is a wonderful way to support their learning. Reading does not have to be a big task. Sharing a story, discussing the pictures, or listening to your child read can make a huge difference. Just a few minutes of reading each day helps to develop vocabulary, confidence, and a love of books and learning. 

ClassDojo 

We will use ClassDojo to celebrate the children's achievements. We will also use ClassDojo to share important information and updates with you. You can use the app to contact us and send a message to the class teacher if needed. 

We are very much looking forward to learning, playing, exploring, and having fun together in Ywen Class. It will be an exciting term full of opportunities to learn new things, develop skills, and build confidence. 😊
