Additional Learning Needs at Ysgol Coed y Gof
Overview
At Ysgol Coed y Gof, we are committed to supporting children and young people with additional learning needs in line with the ALN Act. This Act ensures that every child gets the help they need to thrive, replacing the old SEN system.
Objectives
- Inclusive Education: Making sure all children can join in mainstream education where possible.
- Consistency: Providing high-quality support across all schools.
- Collaboration: Working together with families, schools, and local authorities.
- Early Identification: Spotting needs early to provide timely help.
- Rights-Based Approach: Making sure every child's needs are assessed and met.
Individual Development Plan (IDP)
The IDP is a key part of the ALN Act, outlining the specific support for each child. It replaces the old SEN statements.
Contents
- Child's Profile: Details about your child's strengths, interests, and needs.
- Support Strategies: Specific ways to help your child succeed.
- Outcomes: Measurable goals to track progress.
- Review Process: Regular check-ins to see how things are going.
Role of Parents
Parents are vital in the ALN system. Your involvement is highly valued, and your input is important.
- Communication: Keep in touch with us regularly.
- Meetings: Join meetings and reviews about your child's IDP.
- Support at Home: Use the strategies at home to support your child's learning.
- Feedback: Share your thoughts on how well the support is working.
Support Services
There are several support services available under the ALN Act:
Educational Services
- Specialist Teachers: Experts who provide tailored support for your child.
- Learning Support Assistants: Staff who work closely with your child on their IDP strategies.
- Educational Psychologists: Professionals who assess your child and give advice on the best support methods.
Additional Services
- Health Services: Including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and mental health support.
- Social Services: Providing additional resources for families in need.
