Cyfnod Sylfaen

Mae’r Cyfnod Sylfaen yn cynnwys plant dosbarthiadau'r Derbyn, Blwyddyn 1 a Blwyddyn 2.  Mae yna bwyslais ar ddatblygu gwybodaeth, dealltwriaeth a sgiliau’r plant drwy chwarae, dysgu arbrofol (dysgu trwy gwneud) a thrwy datrys problemau bywyd go iawn yn yr ardaloedd tu fewn a thu allan. Dyma feysydd dysgu statudol y Cyfnod Sylfaen;

• Datblygiad Personol a Cymdeithasol, Lles ac Amrywiaeth Ddiwylliannol

• Sgiliau Iaith, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu

• Datblygiad Mathemategol

• Gwybodaeth a Dealltwriaeth o'r Byd

• Datblygiad Corfforol

• Datblygiad Creadigol

Mae plant y Cyfnod Sylfaen hefyd yn datblygu sgiliau o fewn y Fframwaith Llythrennedd a Rhifedd Cenedlaethol (FfLlRh) sydd wedi cael ei ddatblygu i’n helpu i wireddu ein nod, sef bod plant Cymru yn gallu datblygu sgiliau llythrennedd a rhifedd ardderchog yn ystod eu cyfnod yn yr ysgol.

The Foundation Phase

The Foundation Phase encompasses all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year2. classes There is an emphasis on developing children’s knowledge, skills and understanding through play, experiential learning (learning by doing) and by solving real life problems in both the indoor and outdoor environments through the areas of learning. The statutory areas of learning in the Foundation Phase are:

• Personal and Social Development, Well-being and Cultural Diversity
• Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
• Mathematical Development
• Knowledge adn Understanding of the World
• Physical Development
• Creative Development

Foundation Phase children also develop the skills highlighted within the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) which has been developed to help achieve our aim that the children of Wales are able to develop excellent literacy and numeracy skills during their time at school.
